LONDON (Alliance News) - FTSE 100-listed J Sainsbury PLC, the UK's second-biggest food retailer, andWalmart Inc subsidiary Asda arein advanced talks to merger, the Financial Times reported Saturday citing "people familiar with the situation".
The deal is set to be structured so that Walmart receives new shares in Sainsbury's, the newspaper reported, saying this was "according to a person close to the talks".
An announcement is likely to be made on Monday morning, the FT said, ahead of Sainsbury’s full-year results, which are due on Wednesday.
