LONDON (Alliance News) - Rolls Royce Holdings PLC intends to enter the civil nuclear services market by offering data analytics technology for power station operators, The Financial Times reported on Monday.
The FTSE 100-listed jet engine and power systems manufacturer plans to use "live tracking" sensors to evaluate the performance of reactors and allow operators to predict equipment issues and maintenance requirements.
Being able to predict when certain components require maintenance can enable a power station operator to cut down on the downtime of a reactor and help with purchasing costs.
Currently, engineering services firm PKMJ Technical Services, a Rolls-Royce subsidiary, is using historic data to predict maintenance issues.
Rolls-Royce Head of Civil Nuclear Rob Fletcher told Financial Times that the company has already held exploratory talks with a number of European operators regarding predictive maintenance technology.
