PRESS: NortonLifeLock in talks for potential Avast takeover - WSJ

14th Jul 2021 21:25

(Alliance News) - Prague-based cybersecurity firm Avast PLC is in talks for a possible takeover by Tempe, Arizona-based software company NortonLifeLock Inc, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

According to people familiar with the matter, it is possible that a deal could be finalised within the month of July, which would expand NortonLifeLock's focus on consumer software.

Shares in Avast closed flat at 504.20 pence on Wednesday in London, giving the company a market capitalisation of GBP5.20 billion. WSJ reported that assuming a typical deal premium, the offer could value Avast at around USD8 billion.

NortonLifeLock's shares were down 1.2% at USD26.87 in New York.
