PRESS: Italian Prosecutors Probe Shell Over Nigeria Oil Deal - Reuters

30th Mar 2016 13:47

LONDON (Alliance News) - Authorities in Italy are investigating Royal Dutch Shell PLC over allegations of international corruption related to a deal concerning an oil block in Nigeria that also involved Italian multinational Eni, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing a judicial source.

Milan prosecutors opened a corruption probe into Eni in 2014 in a case relating to a USD1.30 billion acquisition of Nigeria's OPL-245 offshore oil block in 2011 by the Italian company and Shell, Reuters reported.

Eni's Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi and another top manager at the company were then placed under investigation, which has now been widened to Shell, the report said, citing the source.

Shell declined to comment to Alliance News. Eni has denied any wrongdoing in the case, said Reuters.
