PRESS: HSBC To Hire Outgoing Royal Bank Of Scotland Finance Head - FT

1st Jun 2018 09:29

LONDON (Alliance News) - HSBC Holdings PLC in talks with Ewen Stevenson, chief financial officer of Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, to replace HSBC CFO Iain Mackay, The Financial Times reported late Thursday.

On Wednesday, RBS said Stevenson will step down as CFO to take up an unspecified opportunity elsewhere. The date of his departure is yet to be confirmed, it said.

Prior to the announcement, Stevenson had been considered one of the leading candidates to take over the top role if RBS Chief Executive Ross McEwan left.

The newspaper noted that the job offer from HSBC was "too good" to turn down amid Stevenson's uncertain prospects of becoming the boss at Royal Bank of Scotland.

The Financial Times said the move, if confirmed, would be the major appointment by the new leadership team at HSBC.

Mackay has been finance head of HSBC since December 2010 and was one of the top internal candidates to replace former Chief Executive Stuart Gulliver, who left in February. However, the bank appointed John Flint instead.

The Financial Times said Mackay is expected to take some time off and consider his next move after working in the finance function of HSBC for more than a decade.

A spokeswoman for HSBC declined to comment, The Financial Times said.
