LONDON (Alliance News) - GlaxoSmithKline PLC is looking into allegations of corruption in the United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported Tuesday, the latest in a string of investigations in a number of countries.
Reuters reported that it had seen an email, purportedly from a Glaxo sales manager, setting out allegations of improper payments that was sent to top management on Monday.
A spokesperson for the company told Reuters that the claims are already being addressed as part of its investigation into its operations in the Middle East. Glaxo is already investigating claims in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iraq.
Last month Glaxo was charged a fine of GBP297 million by a Chinese court, concluding investigations that started in June 2013 over allegations that it had paid up to USD500 million to doctors and hospital executives over the past six years.
Shares in Glaxo are trading down 0.4% at 1,401.40 pence Wednesday morning.
