PRESS: Fine Gael support falls as Ireland election edges closer - poll

25th Nov 2024 14:16

(Alliance News) - Polling figures indicate that the three largest parties in Ireland are almost neck and neck heading into the final days of the election, according to a Sunday Independent poll.

According to the latest opinion poll by Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks, Fine Gael support is down four percentage points to 22% since the last comparable poll earlier this month, bringing support broadly in line with that of Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail which sit at 20% each.

Sinn Fein's support rose 2% according to the poll while Fianna Fail's was unchanged.

Support for independents, which includes Independent Ireland, rose by three percentage points to 19%.

Analysts at Davy Research said: "Fine Gael's polling support levels have declined during a challenging election campaign. However, the most likely outcome of Friday's election remains a return to coalition for Fine Gael and Fianna Fail.

"Focus will be on a leaders' debate for the largest three parties on Tuesday and exit poll data on Friday evening."
