(Alliance News) - Departed Barclays PLC chief executive Jes Staley and disgraced late financier Jeffery Epstein exchanged more than 1,000 emails with unexplainable terms included in them, the Financial Times reported on Friday.
The FT, citing people familiar with the matter said the communication between Epstein and the ex-Barclays CEO featured terms such as "snow white". The FT reported that the extent the duo communicated through email was not made public until now. The FT said 1,200 emails were exchanged.
Citing those familiar with the email, the FT said the messages suggested Staley and Epstein had a close relationship.
Kathleen Harris, a lawyer for Staley, told the FT: "We wish to make it expressly clear that our client had no involvement in any of the alleged crimes committed by Epstein, and codewords were never used by Staley in any communications with Epstein, ever."

Earlier in November, London-based Barclays said Staley stepped down as CEO in order to contest findings into his description of his relationship with Epstein.
In light of the UK Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority's conclusions, and Staley's intention to contest them, he agreed to part ways with the lender, Barclays said earlier this month.
Barclays noted that the probe has made "no findings that Staley saw, or was aware of, any of Epstein's alleged crimes". The lender said that was the basis of its support for Staley following Epstein's arrest in the summer of 2019.
Back in February of last year, Barclays said Staley was "sufficiently transparent" about the nature of his relationship with Epstein, who killed himself in a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
