LONDON (Alliance News) - Tens of thousands of households face paying an extra GBP105 a year for their energy bills unless they switch to a cheaper tariff at the end of this month, the Mail Online reported.
British Gas - which is owned by Centrica PLC - EDF Energy, Npower, Sainsbury's Energy - owned byJ Sainsbury PLC - and Flow Energy all have fixed tariffs coming to an end on August 31 - after which customers will be rolled onto their standard tariffs.
A total of eight fixed-rate energy tariffs are set to expire at the end of this month. Most will see their bills rise by an average of GBP77 a year as a result, but others are facing a far bigger hike, according to price comparison site Gocompare, which is owned by esure PLC.
However, while the switch will be bad news for most, Gocompare noted that some British Gas and Sainsbury's Energy customers may actually see their bills fall by up to GBP60 when their tariff ends, the Mail Online reported.
