PRESS: easyJet starts looking for successor to Chair John Barton - Sky

17th May 2021 06:34

(Alliance News) - easyJet PLC has hired recruitment firm Lygon Group to find a successor to Non-Executive Chair John Barton, Sky News reported on Sunday.

Barton has led the board of the low-cost airline since 2013. easyJet has begun approaching potential candidates for chair in recent weeks, Sky said citing "City sources".

easyJet holds its annual general meeting in December.

At the recent AGM, Barton and Chief Executive Officer Johan Lundgren were only barely re-elected, with 43% of shareholders opposed. This followed a campaign against them by founder and largest shareholder Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who was unhappy about a contract to buy aircraft from Airbus SE.

Barton also is chair of retailer Ted Baker PLC, taking up the role in July of last year.
