LONDON (Alliance News) - A Chinese state-run corporation is said to be interested in acquiring a stake in eight UK nuclear power stations, The Guardian newspaper reported on Sunday.
China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) eyed a possible multibillion pound deal to acquire a stake in EDF Energy operated nuclear power stations, the newspaper reported.
Earlier this year, British Gas owner Centrica PLC, owner of a 20% stake in the stations, put its holding up for sale, The Guardian said.
However, the newspaper reported that CGN is considering buying a 49% stake in the plants, suggesting that EDF might be offloading some of its holding as well.
The eight power stations, generate 8.9 gigawatts of electricity supplying 20% of Britain's needs. EDF acquired them in 2008 for GBP12.5 billion.
