(Alliance News) - UK business lobbying group the CBI has chosen BAE Systems PLC Chair Cressida Hogg to succeed Rupert Soames as president, Sky News reported on Wednesday morning.
Sky said Hogg, who is also on the London Stock Exchange Group PLC board, is expected "take the helm" of the CBI from January 2026 until 2028.
She joins CBI Chief Executive Rain Newton-Smith, who assumed the role in 2023, the same year Smith & Nephew PLC Chair Soames was appointed. This followed a sexual misconduct scandal that year, which resulted in multiple companies ending or pausing their CBI memberships.
"A former executive at the London-listed private equity group 3i [Group PLC], Ms Hogg has extensive experience of working in major pension fund and infrastructure roles, which people close to the CBI said would be an asset as Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, focuses on boosting investment in the UK economy," Sky said.
It added that a source "close to the CBI" said the organisation saw being able to recruit Hogg as "a coup".
BAE Systems shares were up 1.6% at 1,899.50 pence in London on Wednesday afternoon.
