PRESS: Canal+ secures new deal to keep 12 channels on DStv

31st Dec 2025 13:18

(Alliance News) - Canal+ SA and its subsidiary MultiChoice Group Ltd have clinched a deal, allowing it to keep 12 channels including CNN and Cartoon Network on DStv.

The DStv operator had been negotiating the future on its platform of 12 channels from Warner Bros Discovery.

In early December, the group told DStv customers the 12 channels could be removed, but Canal+ on Wednesday announced the signing of a new multi-year and multi-territory agreement, "marking a major milestone in the development of their collaboration on an international scale".

The Paris-based media and entertainment group said the new agreement enables it "to strengthen its entertainment, kids, news and documentary channel offering in African markets". It did not specify how long the new deal will hold.

Early this month, Canal+ completed its acquisition of the remaining interest in MultiChoice, which has delisted from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and A2X exchange in South Africa.

Canal+ plans to seek a secondary inward listing on the JSE, following acquisition of MultiChoice.

Shares in Canal+ closed down 0.7% to 266.60 pence on Wednesday in London.
