LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC is understood to be set to win a contract from the Ministry of Justice estimated to be worth around GBP675 million under which it would become a bailiff for the UK courts, The Independent reported on Monday.
Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has said he thinks businesses would be more effective than courts in reducing the level of outstanding fines, which sat at around GBP2 billion two years ago when the tender to find a private sector contractor was first launched, the paper said.
The process of handing out the contract has been much-delayed and may not be completed by the General Election in May, but BT is said to be close to being confirmed as the preferred bidder, beating off competition from the likes of Capita PLC, IBM Corp and Atos SE.
