LONDON (Alliance News) - The UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has approved a brand of e-cigarette produced by British American Tobacco PLC to be marketed as an aid to help people stop smoking, the BBC reported.
The decision by the medicines regulator will mean e-Voke, made by BAT, could be prescribed on the NHS to help people to stop smoking regular cigarettes.
Public Health England, the health watchdog, has said e-cigarettes are far less harmful than tobacco and help smokers to quit, though other bodies, including the British Medical Association, have claimed the benefits and harms of e-cigarettes are not yet known as the product is still relatively new.
