LONDON (Alliance News) - BP PLC scored a rare win this week in its legal battle over compensation payments from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, The Daily Telegraph reported on Tuesday.
The FTSE 100 oil company was boosted after the US Supreme Court ruled a group of parishes in Louisiana would not be able to sue the company for damaging wildlife in the area, the paper said.
BP has already paid out more than USD27 billion to clean up following the spill in 2010, along with compensation to local businesses for the damage caused. It also is still in the process of fighting a civil suit under the US Clean Water Act, which could see it fined up to USD18 billion, the Telegraph added.
