(Alliance News) - Premier Foods PLC on Wednesday introduced its new environmental, social and governance strategy with a series of "major sustainability commitments".
The St Albans, England-based food manufacturer aims to double its sales of products that meet high nutritional standards and halve food waste, both by 2030. By that same time, Premier Foods is targeting GBP250 million in annual sales of plant-based products, which it defines as vegan.
Premier Foods wants to reduce its scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net zero for direct company emissions by 2040. Scope 1 are direct company emissions, while scope 2 covers indirect emissions from energy consumed by the company.
Lastly, Premier Foods is looking to achieve gender balance among its senior management and donate 1 million meals to those in food poverty per annum, both again by 2030.
"We firmly believe that we should take responsibility for helping to support a healthier planet, for delivering new product options to help consumers eat more healthily and in caring for our colleagues and communities," said Chief Executive Alex Whitehouse.
Premier Foods shares were down 1.0% and 109.94 pence in London on Friday morning.
