(Alliance News) - Powerhouse Energy Group PLC on Thursday said it has signed a letter of intent with BS Holdings Ltd to become the exclusive hydrogen supplier for a planned fuel cell project in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
Under the agreement, Powerhouse will provide hydrogen at 99.99% purity to BSH's proposed H2P project, which is supported by the UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero.
The price will be set below that of green hydrogen and the current UK contracts-for-difference strike price, the company said.
Powerhouse noted that the project is a first-of-a-kind initiative and would provide a key hydrogen offtake route for its Ballymena facility, addressing a major challenge in scaling hydrogen infrastructure.
In addition to the Ballymena project, Powerhouse said it will also assist BSH with other hydrogen-powered combined heat and power projects in the Mid and East Antrim Council area, subject to production limits at its site. It also plans to explore the use of MEGC trailers for fuel delivery.
BSH will support Powerhouse by sourcing further commercial clients and providing early access to future developments across Northern Ireland and the wider UK.
Chief Executive Officer Paul Emmitt called the agreement "a first of its kind" and an important milestone in unlocking hydrogen offtake for the Ballymena project. "We look forward to working with the BSH team to complete this agreement," he said.
Shares in Powerhouse Energy gained 11% to 0.55 pence in London on Thursday.
