Porta Communications Hires Co-Bosses On Agency Merger, Predecessor Exits

27th Apr 2018 10:14

LONDON (Alliance News) - Porta Communications PLC on Friday reported the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer Steffan Williams with immediate effect and said that Emma Kane and Brian Tyson have been appointed as as joint chief executive officers of the company.

Kane and Tyson are currently both heading up Porta subsidiaries. Kane is currently CEO of Redleaf Communications and Tyson is managing partner of Newgate Australia.

Kane - who founded Redleaf in 2000 before it was acquired by Porta in 2014 - will focus on combining Redleaf and Porta's other large communications firm Newgate and lead the enlarged UK business.

Tyson - who is the founding managing partner of Newgate Australia - was appointed to the Porta board in 2017.

Williams - CEO since 2016 - will cease being a direction on or before May 5. The company gave no reason for his departure.

"Redleaf has been a great acquisition for Porta and it now makes absolute strategic sense to combine the business with Newgate and create an enlarged business to capitalise on the expertise and proven track records of the exceptional people at both firms," Porta Chairman John Foley said.

"In Australia, from start up five years ago with a core group of 8 people in offices in Sydney and Melbourne, the business now has more than 100 professional staff and opened additional offices in Canberra, Brisbane and Perth," Foley added.

"Together," Foley explained, "Brian and Emma will give us the leadership we need on both sides of the world to help roll out an integrated offering in our major markets, by learning from each other, replicating the specialist skills and services that exist in some markets, and adopting best practice in all markets to the benefit of clients internationally."

Shares in Porta were 8.9% higher at 2.45 pence on Friday.
