LONDON (Alliance News) - Plant Impact PLC said Wednesday it will be collaborating with non-profit organisation Rothamsted Research, The University of Nottingham and Lancaster University to research mitigating heat stress in wheat.
The agricultural bioscience company said scientists from its research and development team will be involved in the wheat-focused research, which will ultimately aid the development of new chemical crop enhancement technologies to help plants thrive in hotter environments while maintaining their crop quality and yield.
The project will have two strands, with Plant Impact and Rothamsted Research involved in both. These are a three-year knowledge transfer partnership with Lancaster University and a doctoral training partnership studentship with the University of Nottingham.
"Heat stress poses a real and growing risk to farmers across the world relying on consistent wheat yields to maintain the profitability of their farms and to contribute to a steady flow of this key food crop for our growing population," said Steve Adams, research and development director at Plant Impact.
Shares in Plant Impact were up 2.1% at 57.20 pence on Wednesday.
