(Alliance News) - PetroTal Corp on Monday said its Bretana oil field in Peru has shut down due to violent protests outside the oil field camp.
The oil and gas development and production company has evacuated all non-essential personnel following protests over the government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The protesters are seeking government assistance following the hardships caused by the pandemic.
The protesters, some of whom were armed, confronted national police on Sunday night, leaving a dozen injured between the two parties. Three of the injured protesters later died from their injuries.
PetroTal said the essential workers on site will commence production when the appropriate time arises, at which point the remaining crew will be brought back into the field under Covid-19 protocol.
PetroTal shares were down 21% at 10.59 pence each on Monday morning in London.
