LONDON (Alliance News) - Petra Diamonds Ltd Friday said it has sold the exceptional 29.62 carat blue diamond it discovered last month for USD25.6 million.
The diamond mining company with operations in Tanzania, Botswana and South Africa said the diamond was bought for Cora international NY through South African company Golden yellow Diamonds.
The diamond was recovered from Petra's Cullinan mine in South Africa on January 21. The mine is well known as the source of many of the world's most spectacular diamonds, including the two main diamonds in the British Crown Jewels.
On January 21, Numis had increased Petra's price target to 165.00 pence from 160.00p, stating that the diamond could raise between USD15 million and USD20 million on its sale.
In December, the company sold two exceptional white diamonds for a total price of USD12.3 million.
Petra Diamonds shares were up 1.3% to 149.9 pence Friday.
