(Alliance News) - Oxford Nanopore Technologies PLC on Thursday said it has integrated Remora into its operating system, MinKnow.
Remora is a tool for methylation analysis. The Oxford-based company said its integration into the MinKnow system will broaden access to direct, PCR-free nanopore sequencing that captures methylation across the whole genome. PCR refers to polymerase chain reaction; it is the same DNA sequencing technology as used in some tests for Covid-19.
From Thursday, Oxford Nanopore users will have access to the tool.
Oxford Nanopore said the release of Remora complements the native DNA sample preparation, which can be done in 10 minutes using the same run, at no additional cost. Further, by completing both at the same time, no additional toxic chemistry is needed.
The company added that the Remora tool is highly accurate, achieving 99.8% accuracy for 5mC in CpG contexts.
Marcus Stoiber, senior data analyst at Oxford Nanopore, commented: "Detection of methylation from raw nanopore signal is an incredible strength of nanopore technology, but it has long been a cumbersome task to extract this information at the highest accuracy. Remora changes this and delivers epigenetic modifications at the same time as the highest accuracy canonical basecalls."
Shares in Oxford Nanopore were up 4.7% at 322.00 each in London on Thursday at midday.
