LONDON (Alliance News) - OptiBiotix Health PLC on Tuesday said it has signed a second agreement with the Instituto de Química Orgánica General of the Spanish Research Council.
The life sciences company said the agreement, which comes on top of the first deal signed between the two in July 2015, will extend OptiBiotix's development programmes in creating sweet, healthy oligosaccharides, or carbohydrates which contain little sugar.
"OptiBiotix's sugar development programs have the potential to address a key requirement in the food industry, addressing international concerns over the impact of sugar on obesity, highlighted by the recent announcement of a UK sugar tax," said Stephen O'Hara, OptiBiotix's chief executive.
Shares in OptiBiotix were up 1.0% to 71.17 pence Tuesday.
