OptiBiotix Health Registers Five New Microbial Strains

7th Oct 2015 08:25

LONDON (Alliance News) - Life sciences company OptiBiotix Health PLC on Wednesday said it has registered five new microbial strains under the Budapest Treaty, increasing the number of strain registrations it has made to eight.

The Budapest Treaty is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organisation and allows micro-organisms to be subject to patent protection.

"We are pleased to announce the registration of these strains which will protect the recent advances we have made in developing novel sugars," said Stephen O'Hara, OptiBiotix's chief executive.

"With our cholesterol product moving to pilot manufacture and our sugar development programmes moving towards clinical studies, we are making good progress in multiple product and partnering opportunities for compounds which modify the human microbiome to improve human health," O'Hara added.

Shares in OptiBiotix were up 4.7% to 49.20 pence on Wednesday.
