LONDON (Alliance News) - Aquarius Platinum Ltd Wednesday said it has appointed Nigel Rudd, currently chairman of both Heathrow Airport and BBA Aviation, as its chairman designate from November 1.
The platinum miner with operations in South Africa and Zimbabwe said Rudd, 67, will join its board of directors at the start of November, and then take over from current Chairman Nicholas Sibley from the beginning of next March.
Sibley has been an Aquarius Platinum director since 1999 and its chairman since 2002.
Rudd is already involved with South African companies. He is a non-executive director of paper producer Sappi and is a founding shareholder of Atlas Mara, the vehicle co-founded by former Barclays PLC Chief Executive Bob Diamond to invest in the African financial services industry.
He is former chairman of glass maker Pilkington and high-street chemist Boots, and was a non-executive director of Barclays for 13 years and its deputy chairman for six years.
"Having been a non-executive director of Aquarius for 15 years and chairman since 2002 it is time for me to step down. I am delighted that Sir Nigel has accepted the board's invitation to join the Board. I can think of no better person to take my place as chairman and nobody whom I would be happier to see in it," Sibley said in a statement.
Aquarius Platinum shares were up 0.5% at 19.35 pence Wednesday morning.
