New World Resources Suffers Another Fatality At Czech Mine

7th Apr 2014 08:28

LONDON (Alliance News) - New World Resources PLC Monday announced there was a further fatality at the operations of its Czech mining subsidiary OKD on Saturday.

The mining company said a 41-year-old worker died at the surface workplace of its Darkov Mine, the fourth death announced by New World Resources at its operations during 2013 and so far in 2014.

The company, which offered its condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased worker, said an investigative committee comprising members of the local mining authority, company management, trade union representatives and the Czech police is now conducting an enquiry into the accident.

In February, the company noted the death of two miners during 2013. It said at that time that it is committed to achieving fatality-free operations.

However, since then it has announced two deaths at its operations, with Saturday's accident following another fatality during March at the Karviná Mine of its OKD Czech mining subsidiary.

New World Resources shares were down 4.0% to 36.60 pence in early trading Monday.
