3rd Feb 2015 07:26

LONDON (Alliance News) - National Express Group PLC on Tuesday said it has been named the preferred bidder for contracts to provide all services on the Nuremberg S-Bahn public transport system in Germany.

National Express said it won the two 12-year contracts to run the services following a competitive tender and said the deals are worth a total of EUR1.4 billion over the length of the contract.

The S-Bahn services in Nuremberg is currently operated by German national rail operator Deutsche Bahn AG, and National Express will take over the running from December 2018. It will buy 38 new electric five-car trains on behalf of the Bavarian passenger transport authority as part of the contract, it said.

"National Express is delighted to have won another rail contract in Germany, confirming this market as an exciting growth opportunity for the group," said National Express Chief Executive Dean Finch.
