LONDON (Alliance News) - Transport operator National Express Group PLC on Monday said it has signed up for the first Bus Alliance agreement in the UK in the West Midlands.
The FTSE 250-listed company said the alliance will run for five years to 2020 and will involve GBP150.0 million in investment in new vehicles, technology and road improvements.
The alliance, which aims to increase bus usage, improve bus journey times, reduce harmful emissions, and increase investment in highway infrastructure, was founded by the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority and involves seven leaders from metropolitan councils in the area.
The other partners in the alliance include Centro, the transport delivery body for the region, and other local bus operators.
"This Alliance is a first for the UK. We believe a partnership approach is key in driving excellent customer service standards and passenger growth. This agreement will quickly deliver further benefits to West Midlands bus passengers today," said Dean Finch, the chief executive of National Express.
Shares in National Express were down 0.1% to 322.20 pence on Monday.
