National Express Hires Former FedEx Executive Garat As Chief Executive

12th Oct 2020 08:56

(Alliance News) - National Express Group PLC on Monday said it has appointed Jose Ignacio Garat as its new chief executive effective from November 1.

The FTSE 250-listed public transport operator said Chris Davies will step down as interim CEO, but will remain as group finance director. Davies stepped into the role on September 1 after former CEO Dean Finch was poached by FTSE 100 housebuilder Persimmon PLC.

Newly-hired boss Garat was previously senior vice president southern Europe, France and Benelux Operations for delivery services company FedEx Corp.

"I am delighted to welcome Ignacio to National Express Group. Ignacio has the extensive international operational and strategic experience to lead National Express Group through the challenges presented by the pandemic, as well as the significant future opportunities that exist, said National Express Chair John Armitt.

"Ignacio's track-record of focusing on safety, operational excellence and strong financial performance, aligns closely with National Express Group's priorities. On behalf of the whole board, I look forward to working with Ignacio in the months and years to come and thank Chris Davies for his steady hand during his time as interim group chief executive," he added.

Shares in National Express were trading 2.3% lower at 170.96 pence each on Monday morning in London.
