Motive Television Joins Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV Consortium

3rd Feb 2014 10:48

LONDON (Alliance News) - Motive Television PLC said Monday that it had joined the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV Consortium, with the aim of making its Content Express technology a component of the consortium's industry standard technology platform.

The consortium was formed in order to standardise the way in which broadcast and broadband television services are delivered, including televisions and set-top boxes. It aims to provide a neutral technology platform for the industry.

HbbTV's standard is already deployed in various European countries, and Motive said that a large majority of connected TV sets sold in Western Europe implement the HbbTV standard. Motive said that the HbbTV standard is gaining support in the America's and Asia, and future deployments are planned in Europe, Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

"HbbTV is rapidly become an industry standard for the reception of hybrid television, broadcast and internet, and having Motive's technology included in this large population of screens is a valuable addition to the company's growth," said Chief Executive Officer Leonard Fertig in a statement.

Shares in Motive were trading up 5.9% at 0.0217 pence Monday morning.
