(Alliance News) - WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC on Wednesday said it has entered into a home delivery partnership with Deliveroo, as the grocer bids to cope with increased demand amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
The partnership with the delivery company will last for the duration of the health crisis, Morrisons said.
The supermarket said 130 of its stores in the UK will be covered by the deal, which could customers receive groceries within 30 minutes of ordering.
Morrisons added that 70 "essential" household items will be available for delivery under the partnership.
"The move will be for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. The new offer is important for families now staying at home and those unable to order speedy delivery from supermarkets due to high demand," Morrisons said.
In the UK, lockdown measures have been introduced, to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Last week, J Sainsbury PLC unveiled measures of its own to strengthen its home delivery offering.
It said it will trial a bike delivery service to get orders out to UK customers forced to stay home as part of lockdown measures.
The Chop Chop bike delivery service, available as a mobile app, is being trialled at its Blackfriars, central London store. If successful, the function could be expanded to other areas of the UK.
Shares in Morrisons were 2.2% lower at 176.40 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
