Mondi Considering Ways To Expand Capacity, Improved Operations

3rd Nov 2015 07:18

LONDON (Alliance News) - Anglo-South African paper and packaging company Mondi PLC on Tuesday said it is continuing to assess potential ways to boost the efficiency of its operations, including the expansion of facilities in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The FTSE 100-listed company said one option it is currently considering is expanding the Ruzomberok mill in Slovakia's paper production capacity by installing a 300,000 tonne per year containerboard machine to product a new product. The project will not impact on the existing paper machines at the mill.

Also under consideration is expanding the Steti mill in the Czech Republic, through de-bottlenecking and optimising the current operations, including installing a new recovery boiler which would improve the energy efficiency of the mill.

The company is looking at installing a 90,000 tonne a year kraft paper machine to produce glazed paper in one of its mills in central Europe, though it did not say which one.

None of the projects have yet been approved and the final decisions will be made in 2016, Mondi said.
