LONDON (Alliance News) - Internet domain name company Minds + Machines Group Ltd saw its shares rise early Thursday after it said 10 of the new top level domains in which it has an interest will go on general release in September, and it has continued to expand the number of registrars through with they can be sold in anticipation of the release.
In a statement, the company said domain names including .london, .cooking, .country, .fishing, .vodka, and .beer will go on general release next month.
A top level domain name is the suffix of an internet address such as .com or .net which are designated to approved organisations by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Up until now ICANN has only allowed a relatively small number of domains, but changes to rules governing domain names are allowing the launch of new domains.
Several domains in which Minds + Machines has an interest have already gone live, including .london in April, but only to businesses who registered to use them. They will now be available for general release to the public, and will be sold through ICANN-registered registrars.
Minds + Machines said it now has deals with over 70 accredited registrars across Europe, the US and Asia.
"We are particularly pleased with the adoption of Premium Pricing by registrars. We believe this will help reduce domain name speculation and allow the registry - and registrars - to capture a greater percentage of the value of generic addresses over the long-term," Minds + Machines Chief Executive Antony Van Couvering said in a statement.
The company has also been developing its own registrar services platform.
Minds + Machines shares were up 3.4% at 11.50 pence early Thursday.
