Mind & Machines Launches Ten New Domains, Sees Uptake Of Niche Marketing

4th Nov 2014 10:31

LONDON (Alliance News) - Minds and Machines Group Ltd, the operator of top level Internet domains, Tuesday said its marketing technique of targeting top-level domains at specific sectors was paying off as it launched ten domains during September and said it intends to launch a further four in February next year.

Still, Mind and Machine shares were down 7.5% to 9.25 pence per share Tuesday morning.

During September, ten domains within the Minds and Machines portfolio were launched, representing less than a third of its current portfolio, it said in a statement.

"The directors are highly satisfied with the overall progress of these launches, particularly from a revenue perspective," said Minds and Machines.

When measured on an equivalent cost basis, the company would need to sell 495,000 registrations of launched generic top level domains in order to achieve the equivalent revenue, it said.

It said it has seen enthusiastic adoption by North American craft brewers for names such as .beer, and the company believes many of its top level domains can be targeted at close knit communities to sell at a highly cost-efficient manner.

The company is "now marketing directly to the niche verticals represented by many top-level domains, and others are engaging in co-marketing with the company... to a more predictable and robust distribution channel," said Mind and Machines.

The company expects to be launching new domains on a regular basis throughout 2015, and said the next four top level domains to be launched in February 2015, will be .casa, .work, .yoga and .nrw.

The company has also introduced its Mind and Machines Protected List, which allows trademark holders to block registration of their trademarks across all of the company's wholly owned top level domains, both current and future, it said.

"As the top level domain landscape evolves, we believe the focus will increasingly be on those registries and registrars that can best help consumers and businesses activate and use their web domains in the same seamless way that we all use "apps" today," said Executive Chairman Fred Krueger.
