LONDON (Alliance News) - Milestone Group PLC Wednesday said it had bought all the rights and title to youth culture magazine Disorder UK Magazine for a pound, and said founder Davide Wheller would become executive editor tasked with increasing readership.
In a statement, Milestone said Wheller would also work with its Relative unit to develop a digital offering that will compliment the printed version of the magazine.
The magazine was founded in 1999 by Wheller as a fanzine on the principal that new talent is vital to the UK's arts and culture industry. It involves unemployed young creatives in every aspect of production, from styling and fashion shoots to interviewing bands and writing features on film, fashion, music, gaming and new technology, Milestone said.
It also works with colleges and Job Centre Plus to offer training programmes for young people, which fits in with Milestone's own ethos and training programmes. Milestone's key new project is its youth engagement and employment skills project, called Passion Project.
"I am very pleased to be working with Milestone Group as they share the magazine's belief in promoting youth culture and helping young people into employment. This relationship is an important step in the development of the magazine and offers exciting potential in terms of audience expansion, new revenues and additional social impact," Wheeler said in a statement.
"The magazine will enable us to extend the reach of the Passion Project by engaging with more young people in a practical manner, helping them to develop careers in the creative industry whilst generating new business opportunities and revenues for the group," Milestone Chief Executive Deborah White said.
Milestone Group shares were up 1.4% at 0.735 pence Wednesday.
