Midatech-Cardiff University Collaboration Gets Diabetes Grant

7th Jul 2016 09:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - Pharmaceutical company Midatech Pharma PLC on Thursday said its research collaboration with Cardiff University has received a grant to back work on using gold nanoparticles in treating diabetes.

The project, which uses Midatech's platform gold nanoparticle technology, will focus on developing treatments to dampen unwanted autoimmune responses to normal healthy cells in the pancreas, therefore preserving the ability of these cells to produce insulin.

The total value of the grant backing the project, from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, is USD477,437, USD150,000 of which will go to Midatech.

Midatech shares were untraded on Thursday, having last traded at 119.00 pence.
