Mediclinic Hires Former Unilever Exec Steve Weiner To Board

22nd Jul 2020 17:18

(Alliance News) - Mediclinic International PLC said Wednesday it has appointed Steve Weiner as an independent non-executive director, effective Wednesday.

Weiner is currently a non-executive director of Guys' and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, where he chairs the Transformation & Major Programmes Committee.

He is also a non-executive director and a member of the Finance & Commercial Committee of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Prior to that, Mediclinic said Weiner spent most of his career in finance with the international consumer goods group Unilever PLC, most recently as group controller responsible for performance management, accounting, reporting and control.

Shares in Mediclinic closed 16% higher in London on Wednesday at 293.60 pence each. In Johannesburg, the shares rose 16% to ZAR61.80.

Earlier Wednesday, Mediclinic reported its operating performance has improved overall but its Southern Africa revenue was lower in June as the region has not yet passed its Covid-19 peak.

The firm's Southern Africa business revenue was 12% lower in June compared to the previous year as the area "is yet to reach the initial peak" when it comes to Covid-19 cases.

Nonetheless, the private healthcare services company's overall operational performance improved in June as lockdown measures eased, with elective surgical procedures and outpatient activities starting to gradually resume.

Hirslanden and Mediclinic Middle East, representing over two thirds of Mediclinic revenue, were ahead of the previous year.
