Mediclinic Chair Hertzog To Retire In 2020; Singer Hired As Non-Exec

24th Jul 2019 16:58

(Alliance News) - Mediclinic International PLC said Wednesday Chair Edwin Hertzog will retire in July 2020, whilst it also hired former InterContinental Hotels Group PLC finance chief as the new non-executive director at the private hospital firm.

Hertzog - chair since 2016 - will stand down at the end of the annual general meeting for the London- and Johannesburg-listed firm in July 2020. A search is already underway to find his successor.

"On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Dr Hertzog for his commitment to Mediclinic throughout his 36 year tenure at management level and on the board," Mediclinic Non-Executive Director Desmond Smith said.

"Dr Hertzog has been instrumental in Mediclinic's growth from a domestic private hospital operator in South Africa to an international private healthcare services group," Smith added. "The board and I wish Dr Hertzog well in his planned retirement."

Separately on Wednesday, Mediclinic announced Tom Singer has been appointed non-executive director at the firm with immediate effect.

Previously, Singer served as chief financial officer of Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn owner InterContinental Hotels as well as a number of other senior finance roles.

"The board is delighted to welcome Tom Singer as an independent non-executive director of the

company," Hertzog said. "His financial acumen and expertise in UK listed international hospitality and branded consumer businesses will be valuable additions to the Board's existing skillset."

Shares in Mediclinic closed marginally higher at 342.00 pence in London on Wednesday, 0.1% higher at ZAR58.97 in Johannesburg.
