(Alliance News) - Data analytics firm Maestrano Group PLC said Friday a recently-acquired subsidiary secured a new contract with the Australian Department of the Environment & Energy.
Airsight - which Maestrano acquired for GBP1.2 million in September - secured the contract to protect some regions of Northern Australia from the effects of uranium mining. The last operational uranium mine in the area has to cease operations by 2021, with decommissioning and revegetation completed by 2026.
No financial details for the contract were provided.
Maestrano said the Australian department is "developing methods to monitor revegetation of the site and is operationalising the use of drone-based technologies to ensure that the revegetated site remains on a sustainable trajectory to become similar to the surrounding environment."
Airsight will equip a number of drones with its NextCore light direction & ranging units. These drones will acquire data from the ecosystem in Kakadu National Park from which details about tree height, canopy depth and more can be derived.
"We are proud and delighted to announce this contract, which features our industry-leading NextCore LiDAR systems and our ability to integrate complex sensors for specialised aerial surveying over large areas", Sales Vice President Nick Smith said.
Shares in Maestrano were 3.6% higher at 1.45 pence in London on Friday.
