LONDON (Alliance News) - Legendary Investments PLC Monday said that its investee company Bosques Energeticos EBE SA de CV, has reported that both its first generation and second generation pongamia trees are now producing seed pods.
Pongamia are one of the few leguminous trees that produce an oilseed. The seeds produced by pongamia are high in oil content, and the composition of the oil makes it well suited for conversion to liquid fuels, basic chemicals or high-value molecules.
Typically, pongamia trees take five years to produce pods, according to Bosques, however their first generation trees which are only four years old, are producing large pods, it said.
Bosques, a Mexican bio-diesel feed crop producer, also reported that its second generation trees are also producing seeds. The trees were rooted from specially-selected breeds from India, it said.
"These developments continue to demonstrate that Bosques is able to take plants developed in one area and successfully both cultivate and improve them under different conditions elsewhere," Legendary Investments said in its statement.
Shares in Legendary Investments were trading 3.9% higher mid-morning Monday at 0.0935 pence.
