LONDON (Alliance News) - The Eurofighter consortium, of which UK defence contractor BAE Systems PLC is a member, on Tuesday welcomed the signing of a contract between Kuwait and Italy under which the Middle East country will buy 28 Typhoon jets.
BAE is part of a consortium with French group Airbus and Italy's Alenia Aermacchi.
Kuwait has signed a deal to buy 22 single-seat and six-twin seat fighter jets, confirming Kuwait as the eighth customer on the programme and the third in the Gulf region, after Saudi Arabia and Oman.
"The confirmation of this order is further testament of the growing interest in the Eurofighter Typhoon in the Gulf Region. It will enable Kuwait to benefit from the critical mass being developed in the Gulf and the many advantages that it brings to an Air Force in terms of interoperability, training and in-service support," said Volker Paltzo, the chief executive of the Eurofighter group.
