Kroger And Ocado Name New Regions For US Automated Warehouses

20th Feb 2019 06:49

LONDON (Alliance News) - Kroger Co and Ocado Group PLC on Tuesday named central Florida and Mid-Atlantic as the next regions for the construction of automated robotic warehouses.

Kroger, one of the US's largest retailers, signed a deal with online grocer Ocado in May, agreeing to order 20 warehouses - known as customer fullfillment centres - during the first three years of partnership. The deal gives Kroger exclusivity in groceries for the Ocado technology in the US.

Kroger's first customer fullfillment centre will be constructed in Monroe, a suburb north of Cincinnati, the US company said.

"Kroger is developing the retail model of the future through our exciting partnership with Ocado, a UK-based company with global ties," Alex Tosolini, Kroger's senior vice president of new business development, said. "We will co-innovate with Ocado to develop the best possible experiences for our customers, leveraging advanced robotics technology and creative solutions."

Meanwhile, Ocado's Solutions Chief Executive Officer Luke Jensen said that Ocado's customer fullfillment centres will play a "crucial role" in helping Kroger improve its customer offer.
