LONDON (Alliance News) - Kier Group PLC said Wednesday it was been awarded a package of road maintenance services contracts with Surrey County Council worth around GBP160 million, as part of a four-year extension to its current contract that started in 2011.
The extension of this contract will run from April 2017 to March 2021, and the scope of the work will be expanded to develop a Surrey Highways skill centre and provide a range of training and apprenticeship opportunities.
"Kier has forged a strong working relationship with Surrey Country Council over the past five years. This contract reinforces Kier's presence in the local authority market and further demonstrates the benefits of recent acquisitions, which have strengthened the group's highways services and maintenance offering and helped to establish Kier as the market leader in this sector," said Chief Executive Haydn Mursell in a statement.
"These awards further underpin the strength of the combined Construction and Services order book which currently stands at approximately GBP9 billion," Mursell added.
Kier added the Surrey contract extension showed the benefits of its recent acquisition of Mouchel and that it also had strengthened its position on strategic frameworks worth GBP740 million in total.
