Keller Joint Venture Inks GBP167 Million Contract At UK HS2 Train Line

18th Feb 2021 10:00

(Alliance News) - Keller Group PLC on Thursday announced that its joint venture with construction company VSL International won a GBP167 million contract to carry out geotechnical work for the UK's HS2 train line connecting London and the West Midlands.

Keller is a London-based geotechnical contractor to the construction industry for foundations and ground improvement. The company's 50:50 joint venture with VSL International is called KVJV.

The contract was awarded to KVJV by Align, which is a joint venture of three international infrastructure companies; Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd.

The area in which KVJV will be operating is called the C1 section which consists of 21.6 kilometre of high-speed rail infrastructure, including a 3.4km viaduct and twin-bore 16km tunnels under the Chilterns.

KVJV's scope of work is to construct the piled foundations for the viaducts, grouting works, retaining structures for four ventilation shafts, and ground improvement works for the execution of the tunnel cross passages.

KVJV has already completed supplementary site investigations and pile testing, the company said.

"The teams are currently working on advance works for the south portal of the tunnel that will be the entry point for the tunnel boring machines, and the first diaphragm wall for one of the ventilation shafts," Keller said.

Keller President in Europe Jim De Waele said: "The KV joint venture is a continuation of our successful partnership on the Melbourne Metro Project in Australia. We're excited to bring our complimentary geotechnical capabilities, experience and capacity on one of the most demanding and exciting transport projects in Europe."

In 2018, Keller's joint venture was awarded a GBP113 million contract for work on the Metro Tunnel Project in Melbourne Australia.

Keller shares were up 2.4% at 793.64 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
