LONDON (Alliance News) - Kazakhstan-focused copper miner KAZ Minerals PLC on Friday said it has signed a deal with Baiyin Nonferrous Group Co Ltd to jointly undertake a smelter study for the construction of a copper smelter in Kazakhstan.
The smelter would process copper concentrate from Kaz Minerals' Bozshakol and Aktogay mines.
KAZ said any decision to pursue the construction of a smelter would be subject to further technical and economic evaluation and on the availability of appropriate financing.
Shares in KAZ were down 2.5% to 210.4 pence Friday, one of the worst performers in the FTSE 250.
