Kavango Resources Gets Results From Survey At Kalahari Suture Zone

5th Jun 2019 14:28

LONDON (Alliance News) - Kavango Resources PLC on Wednesday reported the completion of processing of the data from the second phase of the airborne electromagnetic survey that covered much of the Kalahari suture zone in Botswana.

The exploration company said the survey was carried out by SkyTEM over the northern section of the company's prospecting licences. The results of the data processing and modelling have shown that SkyTEM's airborne electromagnetic system has been able to penetrate to an average depth just under 400 meters, below the conductive cover of Kalahari sand and Karoo sediments.

The geological modelling, which was carried out by Aarhus Geophysics Ltd, allows Kavango's technical team to identify lithological units, structures, zones of conductivity and potential ore bodies on a line by line basis, the company explained.

To-date, Kavango said 45 conductive anomalies have been identified from the second phase survey. Of these, 24 conductors are detected on single flight lines. The remaining conductors are traceable over several lines.

"The combination of SkyTEM's new high resolution 12.5 hertz airborne electromagnetic surveying system together with the advanced data processing provided by Aarhus Geophysics represents a major breakthrough in Kavango's exploration for massive sulphide orebodies lying below Kalahari and Karoo cover in the northern part of the Kalahari suture zone," said Chief Executive Michael Foster.

"The data processing has identified numerous conductors of interest, the longest of which is 4.5 kilometres long. The most compelling conductors will now be surveyed by ground based resistivity techniques together with detailed soil geochemistry," added Foster.

Kavango shares were trading 4.6% lower on Wednesday at 4.15 pence each.
