LONDON (Alliance News) - Finland-focused diamond miner Karelian Diamond Resources PLC on Thursday said the Finnish Mining Authority has granted the company three further exploration claims reservations in the Kuhmo and Kuopio-Kaavi regions.
Karelian said the Kuhmo region claim is "up ice" from kimberlitic indicator minerals the company has recovered previously from its Rihivaara diamond exploration target.
The Kuopio-Kaavi region is in central Finland and is an established diamondiferous region, the company said. For both claims granted in the region, diamondiferous kimberlite bodies have been reported.
"I am delighted that,as part of our ongoing diamond exploration programme in Finland and our re-evaluation of the Kuopio-Kaavi area, we have secured these kimberlite bodies, four of which are known to be diamond bearing," said Karelian Chairman Richard Conroy.
Karelian shares were up on the news, rising 9.7% to 1.70 pence to make it one of the best performers in the AIM All-Share index.
