John Wood Awarded USD145 Million Extension From Melbourne Water

14th Jul 2016 09:38

LONDON (Alliance News) - John Wood Group PLC on Thursday said it has been awarded a three-year contract extension from Melbourne Water, worth a total of USD145.0 million, to continue providing services to the Thomson reservoir in the east of the city and to the Western treatment plant.

John Wood will continue to deliver mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, process control and civil maintenance services to Melbourne Water's water and sewage transfer and treatment facilities and their networks.

The Thomson reservoir is the largest one in Melbourne and accounts for around 60% of the city's total water storage capacity. Completed in 1984, the reservoir is integral to the area. The reservoir helped alleviate the severe drought suffered between 1997 and 2009, when it went from being at full capacity to only 16% full at times.

The Western treatment plant processes around half of all the sewage in Melbourne and produces a significant amount of recycled water. Notably, Melbourne Water's Eastern treatment plant processes 40% of overall sewage in the city, meaning the two plants are almost solely responsible for processing sewage in Melbourne.

The contract employs approximately 250 people across a broad range of functions including administration, project management, engineering, through to technicians working in the field.

The extension builds the relationship between John Wood and Melbourne Water, which began working together in 2012.

The extension follows on from Wednesday when John Wood said an initial three-year contract from Apache Corp covering work in the UK North Sea was extended for at least one, maybe two, years.

John Wood shares were up 0.7% to 687.00 pence per share on Thursday.
