(Alliance News) - Aviation services firm John Menzies PLC said Friday that Dermot Smurfit has stepped down as chair with immediate effect.
Smurfit joined John Menzies in July 2016, helping the firm with its "transformational" USD202 million takeover of ASIG Ltd.
Smurfit has been replaced by Philipp Joeinig, who was previously a non-executive director. Joeinig brings "a deep understanding" of the aviation services industry, John Menzies said, having previously worked with Swissport International Ltd.
Senior Independent Director David Garman has also been moved to deputy chair, John Menzies added.
Garman commented: "On behalf of the board, we would like to recognise and record our sincere appreciation to Smurfit for his significant contribution to our business.
"He has been an effective and excellent chair, and we wish him well with his future endeavours."
John Menzies shares were 0.4% lower on Friday morning at a price of 425.50 pence each.
